Carl Giles was a Great British institution remembered mainly for the characters of the dysfunctional cartoon family he created. Working from his Ipswich office he used the family to comment on every day events. The statue erected in his memory in Ipswich town centre is of the matriarch of the family surrounded by her grand children and dog. She stands in the street looking up towards the window of the office used by Giles for a significant part of his working life.
